You may have noticed that people are different! We have different working styles, experience levels, automatic responses, preferences, priorities… the list goes on and on. It’s no surprise then, that teams often struggle to create and maintain healthy, productive cultures where everyone flourishes.
We use a number of tools to bring awareness, provide practical help and develop teams and individuals, which ultimately leads to lasting change. We concentrate on three specific tools in the Everything DiSC suite depending on our goal. We use Workplace with teams, Management with leaders responsible for overseeing teams and Agile EQ for personal development.
Everything DiSC Workplace is a personalised learning experience that can benefit every person in the organisation—regardless of title or position, department or function—in building more productive and effective relationships at work. It teaches participants to understand themselves and others, while learning to appreciate different priorities, preferences, and values each individual brings to the workplace. With personalised insights and actionable strategies, participants learn how to adapt to the style of others, ultimately improving engagement, collaboration, and the overall quality of the organisation. Everything DiSC Workplace® is DNV certified as an occupational test tool. It is EFPA compliant and to be used for development purposes.
Everything DiSC Management is a virtual or classroom training and personalised learning experience proven to increase the effectiveness of anyone in a management role. Participants deepen their understanding of themselves, their direct reports, and their own managers using the DiSC model, while learning how their management style influences their approach to decision-making, time management, and problem solving. Participants walk away with concrete strategies to help them adapt to the styles of their direct reports, enabling them to bring out the best in their people, no matter where they are.
Everything DiSC Agile EQ is a virtual or classroom training and personalised learning experience that teaches participants to read the emotional and interpersonal needs of a situation and respond accordingly. By combining the personalised insights of DiSC® with active emotional intelligence development, participants discover an agile approach to workplace interactions and learn to navigate outside their comfort zone, empowering them meet the demands of any situation. In this training, participants will discover their EQ strengths, recognise their EQ potential, and commit to customised strategies for building agility. The result is an emotionally intelligent workforce that can support your thriving agile culture—no matter where they are.
Based on the work of Patrick Lencioni’s international best-seller The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, The Five Behaviors® Powered by Everything DiSC® helps teams apply The Five Behaviors® model of Trust, Conflict, Commitment, Accountability, and Results to drive team effectiveness and productivity. The program uses Everything DiSC, a tool that helps build effective team communication and relationships, to help participants understand their individual DiSC® style and discover how each style brings value to the team.
Starting with The Five Behaviors assessment, team members will gain insights about themselves, others, and their approach to teamwork. These insights are then brought to life through a powerful in-person facilitated experience that works by addressing the full spectrum of essential cohesive team behaviours.
Let’s take a look at each of the five dysfunctions, labelled ‘the five dysfunctions of a team’, and their flip side ‘Five behaviours of a cohesive team’:
Trust lies at the heart of all high performing, cohesive teams. Without trust, teamwork is all but impossible and never sustainable. A lack of trust leads to an unwillingness to communicate honestly and openly, real thoughts, feelings and ideas are suppressed.
Conflict. Great relationships that stand the test of time can engage in productive conflict to grow and develop. With a fear of conflicted discussion, teammates are reluctant to confront each other, hide their feelings and cannot engage in constructive conflict and debate or conflicted debate, when it happens, is destructive and erodes trust. Ideas do not get properly aired and evaluated, issues are unresolved and difficult discussion is avoided.
Commitment. Teams work effectively when every member clearly understands, endorses, and commits to the team’s goals and decisions. Without commitment, efforts are unfocused and likely to undermine effective teamwork. Great teams make timely and sometimes difficult decisions that team members commit to. They seize opportunities and maintain momentum.
Accountability. When team members are uncomfortable holding each other to commitments and pointing out problems or areas for improvement, the team’s efforts will lack focus, energy begins to fade and everything unaccountably, but predictably, falls apart. Cohesive teams rely on peer to peer accountability and self-regulate their standards of behaviour.
Results. In dysfunctional teams, members prioritise personal or departmental agendas instead of the team’s overall goal. A lack of clarity about the goal inevitably leads to efforts being unaligned and that builds organisational friction making it hard to get important things done. Effective teams focus their efforts on the collective results of the group
There’s never a one-size fits all solution when it comes to teams so we tailor the learning experience to the needs of each team we work with. We use Everything DiSC as a one to one coaching tool, for training with managers and at other times with the entire team. Our flexible approach enables us to work within your budget and identify where the maximum impact will be. Everything DiSC is a great tool for helping people to understand themselves and those around them.
When a team is specifically struggling to get along or be productive, The Five Behaviours is our go to tool. Providing specific feedback through the online survey, we are able to identify problem areas and then work through them with the team. The Five Behaviours programme gives practical steps to strengthening each behaviour, helping to change culture and work towards the results of a high functioning team.
