If Music be the Food of Love

Music is part of our daily lives and most of us use music when caring for people living with dementia and others. However, we don’t always understand how music affects the brain (the science behind its affect and the benefits of using music with people living with dementia). Using music in care-settings isn’t just about ‘putting on the radio’ or singing songs from ‘the old days. Using music effectively can have therapeutic benefits (e.g. relieving emotional distress and promoting health) and when used from a position of person-centred care and effective personalised care planning have a profound affect in promoting engagement, well-being and inclusion.

‘If Music Be the Food of Love…’ will provide you with this understanding about how music affects the brain, the therapeutic and practical benefits for people with dementia, their relatives/carers and staff. The course will also provide practical ideas for using music in formal/informal activities, to improve inclusion, health and well-being and quality of life.
